Work With Me

One-on-one maternal education and navigation to help you understand what's ahead, prepare for the decisions that come with it, and know where to turn when you need additional support.

About Casey

I'm Casey Keen—MS in Forensic Medicine, BA in Psychology, and author of The Alchemy of Motherhood (Cynren Press, 2026). I experienced an unplanned c-section, birth trauma, missed postpartum preeclampsia, systemic healthcare gaps, and undiagnosed postpartum depression and anxiety firsthand. After my own experience, I spent years studying the evidence, speaking with experts, and researching why so many mothers leave birth unprepared for what comes next. This work grew from that journey. Today, I work with mothers and healthcare organizations to strengthen maternal education, navigation, patient communication, and postpartum preparation.

I'm not a doula, therapist, or healthcare provider. I'm a perinatal educator and advocate who helps women understand what they're walking into, prepare for the decisions ahead, navigate available resources and support, and advocate for themselves inside a healthcare system that can be difficult to navigate.

Maternal Education & Navigation

Knowing that help exists and knowing how to access it are two different things. Pregnancy and postpartum can involve OB/GYNs, primary care, mental health providers, pelvic floor therapists, lactation support, insurance, hospital resources, community programs, and county or state services. The information is out there, but it isn't always easy to know what applies to you, where to start, or what to do next. PEA combines personalized education with nonclinical navigation to help you understand your options, prepare for conversations with your care team, find relevant resources, and make sense of your next steps.

FAQs

Find answers to common questions here.

What trimester should I start?

You can begin at any point during pregnancy, although the second trimester gives you the most time to prepare. If you’re already in your third trimester or newly postpartum, it isn’t too late. We’ll meet you where you are and focus on what would be most useful right now.

What does “maternal navigation” mean?

Maternal navigation is nonclinical support that helps you make sense of the maternal-care landscape and your practical next steps. I can help you locate relevant resources, understand the types of support available, prepare questions for providers, navigate practical barriers, and organize what you want to discuss with your healthcare team. I do not diagnose conditions, recommend treatment, determine what medical care you need, or coordinate your clinical care.

How is this different from working with a doula?

A doula provides physical and emotional support during labor and birth. My work focuses on education and nonclinical navigation. I help you understand the maternal-care landscape, prepare for decisions and conversations, identify relevant resources, and know what questions to bring to your healthcare team. We're different services with different scopes, and many women may benefit from both.

Do I need this if I already have a midwife or OB?

Your OB or midwife manages your medical care. PEA complements that care with personalized education and nonclinical navigation, helping you prepare for birth and postpartum, understand what questions to ask, identify relevant resources, and know what practical steps you can take next.

Are sessions available in person?

Yes, sessions are available in person in the Doylestown, PA area.

What if I've already had a difficult birth or postpartum experience?

These sessions aren’t only for preparing for an upcoming birth. If you’ve already had a difficult experience, we can review what happened from an educational and advocacy perspective, organize your unanswered questions, and help you prepare for conversations with your medical provider. This is not therapy or clinical trauma treatment, but it can help you better understand your experience and identify appropriate resources or professional support.

Can my partner attend?

Absolutely. Partners and support people are encouraged to attend sessions whenever appropriate. Preparing together often improves communication, shared expectations, and postpartum planning.

Can you help me find postpartum resources?

Yes. Depending on your needs and package, I can help identify relevant local, county, state, community, and national resources; explain what different types of services generally provide; and help you prepare for the practical steps involved in contacting them. Your healthcare provider remains responsible for medical recommendations and referrals requiring clinical judgment.

A note
on scope

PEA provides education, advocacy preparation, and nonclinical maternal navigation. Services are not medical care, mental health treatment, clinical case management, or care coordination. I do not diagnose, treat, prescribe, determine medical necessity, interpret symptoms or test results, or recommend specific medical treatment. Navigation may include helping you locate resources, understand available types of support, prepare questions, and identify practical next steps. Medical and mental health decisions remain between you and your licensed healthcare providers. PEA does not provide emergency or crisis services. For urgent medical or mental health concerns, contact an appropriate healthcare professional or emergency service.
